CBSE school ERP software: exam scheme, grading and report cards

Ecole is CBSE school ERP software with a starting exam scheme and grading system a school checks and edits, never one applied blindly. The board's own circular stays the authority; what you see here is configuration.

There is no separate CBSE mode inside Ecole

Ask how Ecole handles CBSE and the honest answer is that it does not, not as a mode switch buried in the code. An exam scheme in Ecole is CBSE exam scheme configuration: a list of exam types, a maximum mark for each, a weightage for each, entered for one school for one academic year. Nothing in the underlying system checks which board a school belongs to and branches its behaviour from there. What you see on this page is a CBSE-shaped starting point sitting on the same configuration screen that a school on any other board, or no board at all, would use to build its own scheme from nothing.

This matters because a board's own rules change, correspondents word things differently from one campus to the next, and a school moving from one board to another should not need new software, only new configuration. Ecole ships two presets today: this CBSE-shaped one, and a Telangana State (SSC) shaped one. Both are starting points a school checks and edits, never rules wired in for every school that happens to tick a CBSE box.

The CBSE preset: what ships and what you check

Applying the CBSE preset to an academic year fills in five exam types with a maximum mark and a weightage against each, in the pattern below.

Grading: eight bands, worked out at the moment you look

The CBSE preset also fills in an eight point grading system, shown below with the percentage range behind each grade.

A grade is never written to the database next to a mark. It is worked out at the moment a report card, a mark sheet or a dashboard asks for it, from whatever bands apply to that school and that year. Change a boundary next year and every report card already printed still reads the way it did the day it was printed, because the marks underneath it never moved.

One rule holds for every band table in Ecole, CBSE's or anyone else's: a percentage that sits exactly on the line between two bands belongs to the lower one. A mark that a teacher calls 91 percent in conversation but that calculates to 90.6 percent after rounding falls into A2, not A1, and the grid shows why rather than leaving the two of you to argue about it.

Many CBSE schools already split the year this way, in some shape: periodic tests through the term, a portfolio, a subject enrichment activity, and an annual exam at the end, with a handful of subjects marked only by grade rather than scored against a maximum. Ecole's preset follows that general shape. It is not a copy of any specific circular, and the school's own scheme, once checked and confirmed, is what governs a real report card.

Marks entry that catches a mistake before it is saved

A subject teacher opens a section and sees a grid that behaves like a spreadsheet: type a mark, move to the next cell, save. If a mark exceeds the maximum for that exam type and that subject, the grid refuses it as it is typed, naming the child and the part of the exam the mark belongs to, rather than letting a stray extra digit through to a report card. A subject teacher can only enter marks for their own subjects and their own sections, and can save partway through a section and come back to finish it later.

Theory, practical and grade-only subjects

Where a CBSE subject splits into theory and practical components, Ecole keeps the two apart rather than folding them into a single number before anyone has checked either half. Subjects marked only by grade, with no maximum mark at all, such as some co-scholastic subjects, are supported the same way: a teacher records the grade directly, with no percentage calculation standing between the judgement and the report card.

Report cards printed for a whole CBSE section

The report card comes out of the same report card generator every school on Ecole uses, built in your school's own layout, with your logo, during onboarding. We build it, not you, in this version of the product. It comes out as a PDF, and a class teacher prints an entire section in one action rather than one child at a time. Remarks a class teacher writes against a student reach the printed report card, sitting alongside the marks and grades the scheme has calculated.

Applying the preset once, correctly

A school admin or correspondent applies the CBSE preset to an academic year once. If exams already exist for that year, Ecole refuses to apply the preset again rather than merging the two and leaving a scheme nobody can fully explain. If a maximum mark or a weightage needs correcting afterwards, it is corrected in the configuration itself, by editing that exam type, not by reapplying a preset over the top of it.

Everyone touching the scheme sees the same numbers from their own seat: the subject teacher entering marks, the class teacher printing the report card, the accountant who has nothing to do with exams at all, and the principal watching the section move through the year. One configuration, one place it lives, one set of grades everybody sees when they look. See how teachers work inside it day to day.

Questions about this

Does Ecole apply CBSE's grading rules automatically?

No. Ecole starts a CBSE-shaped preset that fills in exam types, maximum marks and an eight point grading system, and the school checks and edits it before the first report card goes out. Ecole's own message during setup says the same thing: a starting point, not the board's own circular. The school's confirmed scheme is the authority Ecole works from.

What happens if a subject teacher types a mark higher than the maximum?

The marks grid refuses it the moment it is typed, naming the student and the part of the exam the mark belongs to, so nothing above the maximum ever reaches a report card. The teacher corrects the entry on the spot and carries on with the rest of the section.

Can the CBSE preset be applied twice by mistake?

No. If an academic year already has exams set up, Ecole refuses to apply the preset again rather than merging it in behind the scenes and leaving a scheme nobody can fully account for. Corrections to an existing exam type, maximum mark or weightage are made directly in the configuration instead.

How does Ecole handle a mark right on a grade boundary, like 91 percent?

A percentage sitting exactly on the line between two grades belongs to the lower one. Grades are calculated at the moment a report card or dashboard asks for them, never stored beside the mark, so changing a boundary next year does not alter a report card already printed this year.

Do co-scholastic subjects need a maximum mark entered?

No. Subjects marked only by grade, with no maximum mark at all, are supported directly: a teacher records the grade itself rather than a score that gets converted into one. Theory and practical components are kept apart wherever a CBSE subject splits into both.

Will our CBSE report card look like the one we already use?

Yes. We build the report card in your school's own layout, with your logo, during onboarding, rather than handing you a template to fill in yourself. It is printed as a PDF for a whole section in one action, with class teacher remarks included alongside the marks and grades.
